So, you've decided would like to look into getting one of our puppies, congratulations, how exciting! Here's what to know moving forward --->
Choosing and Meeting your puppy
This is definitely the most fun part! Choosing a puppy can happen via two methods. Firstly, you can look at our available puppies, visually to see which one is most appealing to you and determine that way. That is my most recommended method, since, though some personality is displayed by the puppies in the early ages that we have them in our home, it is not really till later that their personalities really shine. Puppy personalities are extremely moldable at 8 weeks (the usual age they go to their forever home) all the way through their first few years. In fact, their brains do not even stop growing until they are 18 months old! The second option is to come to the ranch and meet the litter in person and decide that way. We are more than happy to accommodate for this. Just be aware that at SLCW we take immense parvo prevention efforts that must be adhered to. If you are unaware, Canine parvovirus (parvo) is an extremely contagious and often fatal virus that most commonly affects unvaccinated puppies. While our puppies will have their first round of booster shots including one for parvo at the time of pickup, until they are fully vaccinated the puppies will still be at risk. Parvo lives in soil, among other things, and is most easily spread by the soles of one's shoe or on the feet of other animals. Therefore we insist that if you desire to come to the property to meet puppies you will adhere to one of two parvo prevention methods. Option 1) The easier option is changing out of your foot wear from home and into a pair of sterilized rubber boots provided to you by SLCW, before entering the puppy yard. Option 2) would be remaining in your own (closed toe) shoes and standing in a bleach and water solution for 10 minutes. This of course is much more time consuming and can potentially damage some shoes. However, bleach, when soaked in for minutes at a time, is proven to kill parvovirus. So if you desire to remain in your own footwear, wearing your own rubber boots would be most recommended, to prevent the most damage to your footwear. Note: If you arrive on the property to visit puppies, but will not comply with these methods, you will be asked to leave. This could also include having exceptionally dirty shoes that would need more than just the soles to be soaked and then refusing to comply with Option 1 instead. Also important to note, some families wish to have their existing dog meet the puppy they intend to bring home. This can happen in your own home after purchasing only. No outside dogs or animals will be allowed on the SLCW property for the safety of our animals and breeding program.
Deposits and Payment
Once you've officially decided on a puppy there will be a non-reffundable deposit fee of $500 to hold the puppy for you.
Delivery & Pickup
We have several options for getting your puppy to you. First, you can come in person to pick up your puppy. As long as the interaction remains outside of the puppy yard there is no need for the parvo prevention shoe hassle mentioned above. Second, I can drive to your home or a nearby business to meet you personally. I can meet people in Deer Park, Loon Lake, Deer Lake, Chewela, North Spokane, Post Falls, Coeur d'Alene or anywhere else within a 60 mile radius of SLCW. Third, if you live farther out we can arrange to meet part way. If meeting part way, or if you want a puppy delivered to you in a location outside of that 60 miles radius, but still within 300 miles of SLCW's location, there will be an additional fee of $50 per hour of travel time round trip.
AKC Papering
All SLCW litters are registered with the American Kennel Club. The registration is “Limited” registration unless you are interested in breeding. Please let us know in that case, as the price for a puppy with breeding rights is different.
Our Guarantees and Contract
Our guarantees include a 1-year health guarantee, and an optional 3-year guarantee when buyers commit to feeding their puppy the premium food we recommend. The health of a dog can be greatly affected by what they eat, so in order to extend the guarantee we have a system that allows us to know you are feeding your puppy quality food. Details about this and our full contract can be requested here.
